About Ginseng
In order to distinguish the ginseng produced in Korea from foreign varieties, the ginseng cultivated in Korea is called “Goryeo insam (Korea ginseng, 蔘),” while foreign ginseng is notated as “參.” Ginseng cultivation requires a great deal of manual work, compared to other types of farming which have been mechanized. With considerable time and effort invested into the cultivation, the ginseng produced in Korea boasts exceptional efficacies and effectiveness.
Ginseng Cultivation

  • Cultivation of pre-planting site

    Once planted, ginseng cannot be transferred to another site prior to harvest. Accordingly, the farmland must be cultivated thoroughly before the planting period.

  • Planting in permanent field

    1-year-old seedling ginseng are planted one by one at 20cm intervals on the pre-planting site that has been cultivated.

  • Management of the permanent field (2~6 years)

    In case of farmed ginseng, they must be cultivated for at least 3 years before they can be harvested. In order to produce 6-year-old ginseng, which have superb medicinal efficacies, excellent geographical and environmental conditions as well as thorough care are essential.

  • Collection of ginseng

    Unlike in the past, ginseng is harvested using a digger.

  • Sorting and sealing

    The ginseng that have been dug out are sorted according to their grades, and are sealed inside packaging boxes.
    Ginseng harvesting period : September or later when tree leaves fall
